Community Blood Bank of Erie County
July 01, 2009
In 1994, with the help of the EDCEC, the
Community Blood Bank moved to their
current facility on the corner of Peach and
West 26th Streets. Janet Comi, Technical
Director, remembers it well. 'œIt was a build-
to-suit leasing project. The EDCEC helped
us secure a tax-exempt note making the purchase of the building possible.' Now, fourteen years later, the continued partnership has provided the Community Blood Bank with another tax-exempt note through the ECGA, an affiliated agency of the EDCEC, to add a two-story addition for labs and office expansions.
As the lowest cost provider of blood in the United States, Jacky Kocz, Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank, remains cost-conscience even during expansions. 'œThe Abbot Prism is a machine (viewed below) that occupies their brand new lab space and will automatically complete 4 blood tests in half the time it used to take. This will allow Community Blood Bank to bring additional technologies into the blood bank that are currently outsourced, saving an estimated $100,000 per year.
